CULTURAL ACTIVITIES
WIKI PROJECT ON THE WALL CHARTS OF THE “G. B. GRASSI” MUSEUM OF COMPARATIVE ANATOMY, SAPIENZA (2025)
banner progetto wiki tavole parietali

The wiki project on scientific wall charts, promoted by the “G. B. Grassi” Museum of Comparative Anatomy in collaboration with the Charles Darwin Library and the IT department of the Department of Biology and Biotechnology, is part of the Wikimedia Museums Archives Libraries 2025 call. Carried out between March and November 2025, it led to the digitization and upload to Wikimedia Commons of 137 images corresponding to 102 wall charts, with the creation of the related Wikidata items complete with historical and scientific metadata.

The charts, mostly dating from the last thirty years of the 19th century, depict animals and anatomical parts. The project highlights a selected sample based on artistic quality, conservation, and scientific relevance, digitizing them with dedicated equipment and publishing them with detailed descriptions.

The images will also be linked to a new Wikipedia page on the Museum of Comparative Anatomy and to Wikidata elements, leveraging the potential of Linked Open Data to create connections between scientific, historical, bibliographic, and museum content.

PODCAST - IL CARTOSCOPIO: IL FUTURO VIENE DA LONTANO (ARCHIVISSIMA 2025)
banner podcast archivissima 2025

"Il cartoscopio: il futuro viene da lontano" is a podcast produced by the libraries of the Faculty of Sciences and presented at the Archivissima 2025archives festival.

Inspired by the theme #dallapartedelfuturo, the story explores the future of the planet through a mysterious adventure: a researcher at the edges of the world discovers an enigmatic object, the "cartoscopio", which allows them to peer into the future. With the help of historical documents preserved in the libraries, the object transports the researcher to a parallel dimension, offering a new perspective on the changes that lie ahead, guided by the voice and ink of the great figures of the past. A journey that invites us to reflect on our future through the past.

THIRD MISSION ACTIVITIES
SCI-ALL: SCIENZA E LIBRI A PORTATA DI MANO (2025-2027)

Logo progetto Sci-All

Sci-All: scienza e libri a portata di mano is a Third Mission project of Sapienza University of Rome, coordinated by the Charles Darwin Libraries of Biology and Biotechnology, the Gabriello Illuminati Libraries of Chemistry and Biochemistry, the Guido Castelnuovo Libraries of Mathematics, and the Earth Sciences Libraries, in collaboration with Libraries of Rome.

The project promotes scientific culture and disseminates the interdisciplinary research of the Departments of the Faculty of Mathematical, Physical and Natural Sciences, with particular attention to themes of life, the environment, and the 2030 Agenda. Its aim is to strengthen public trust in science.

At the heart of Sci-All is the creation of an active network involving both the scientific community and citizens, through interdisciplinary meetings (scientific cafés, workshops, etc.) held in public library spaces, designed for diverse audiences.

The Faculty libraries coordinate the project and collaborate with Libraries of Rome to create thematic shelves of scientific outreach. Professors, researchers, and PhD students actively participate in dissemination, with a special space dedicated to emerging scientists.

Participation in the Rome Science Festival 2025 included initiatives dedicated to the theme Bodies, exploring complex, original, responsible, flexible, and restless bodies.

I LIBRI SAPIENZA PARLANO (2022-2024)
banner i libri Sapienza parlano

“I libri Sapienza parlano” is a Third Mission project of Sapienza University of Rome, coordinated by the Sapienza Library System (SBS) with the support of librarians from various disciplinary areas, aimed at improving accessibility for students with disabilities and specific learning disorders (DSA). Funded by the University for the period 2022–2024, the project was initiated by Prof. Caterina Lombardo, Rector’s delegate for initiatives supporting these groups.

The initiative aims to make university textbooks accessible by utilizing the copyright exceptions provided under Italian and European law. Selected books are made available inaccessible formats, such as audio versions read by volunteers (“voice donors”), electronic files compatible with screen reader software, and tactile sheets for complex visual content. A concrete opportunity to promote full participation of all students in university life.
