Collections

The Library of the Department of Biology and Biotechnology Charles Darwin was established in 2010 through the integration of the collections of the Departments of Cell and Developmental Biology, Animal and Human Biology, and Genetics, and holds approximately 120,000 volumes, including books, journals, and miscellanies.

The collections, distributed across several locations, document the evolution of the life sciences through a library and archival heritage encompassing fields such as biology, physiology, zoology, entomology, comparative anatomy, anthropology, neurobiology, immunology, and genetics, thus reflecting the historical depth and development of scientific research.

The richness of the Library lies not only in the quantity and value of the preserved materials, but also in the experience and vitality of its reference community, fostered by the work and initiatives of the librarians, who make it an active space for the enhancement of memory and the sharing of knowledge.
