Microbial Biology and Biotechnology

A significant array of unicellular as well as multicellular differentiated model systems is exploited for studying molecular and cellular aspects of human genetic diseases (mitochondrial pathologies, calcium homeostasis alterations) and the relationships between aging, apoptosis and oxidative stress. Other projects are focused on the signaling responses, including identification of regulatory factors and chromatin remodeling events, that simple organism can mount when challenged by environmental stimuli.
